Window tints are created to provide protection against the excessive amount of heat from the sun. In addition, window tints can also provide privacy as well as savings in terms of energy consumption. However, the best window tint to use are those designed to block a higher percentage of sunlight while allowing visible light inside to house to maintain a natural ambiance.
There are different types of window tint that can be purchased in the market. Each type is specifically designed for a certain purpose. Compositions and cost for each type may vary, thus, for home owners who want to purchase window tint, it is essential to know the different types of window tint:
Window Tints Types:
- Dyed Films – This type of window tint blocks sunlight and functions by absorbing heat in the film itself, giving protection to the interior part of the home. However, this type of tint should not be applied in the interior of a thermal glass, for they trap a significant amount of heat and will result to a restriction in the air movement.
- Deposited Films – Commonly used and inexpensive. These films contain certain types of metal, which are usually made of copper, aluminum, or nickel-chrome. The large metal deposits produce a dark and mirror-like surface that reflects heat and sunlight.
- Metallized Films – More complex than deposited film, since it involves many different kinds of metal. This type of film is more effective in reflecting a major amount of the sun’s rays, and appears to be clearer than deposited films. This film is more expensive than deposited films.
- Ceramic Films – This type of film is high durable and can provide added strength to the glass, and prevents glass shattering during a collision. These films are highly resistant to fading and discoloration, but higher cost than ordinary films.
- Hybrid Films – This films use a combination of dyed and metallized film layer. It uses the absorption property of dyed films and the reflective property of metallized films. The appearance is a colored and mirror-like window tint. The downside of this type of window tint is that is contained dye. Dyes are prone to discoloration, which would then require a replacement.
Different window tint types offer different results. Ceramic and metallized window tints are usually the most expensive and dyed tints and deposited films are cheaper. On the other hand, more expensive window tints are durable and offer more desirable results. Selecting the type of window tint for home window use should be based on the properties and capability of the window tint to offer home safety, and protection against burglars.
